Large / Standard Cattleyas

Standard Cattleyas are the largest Cattleyas we produce, reaching heights of 12 to 24 inches. These plants are known for their impressive displays, with many large and colorful flowers on strong stems. Standard Cattleyas are great if you're looking to add a statement plant to your collection, and they make spectacular display plants for orchid shows.

C. Dubiosa  [C. loddigesii ('Aranda B' AM/AOS x 'A-doribil' FCC/AOS) x C. trianae 'Cashens' FCC/AOS]

I cannot think of a better pairing for the re-make of the famous classic Cattleya Dubiosa.  'Cashens' is considered by many to be one of the finest trianae's and ('Aranda B' x 'A-doribil') is an excellent example of modern loddigesii flower quality. Expect this remake to produce flowers with fantastic shape, color, and longevity. Not much more needs to be said.

Pot. NEW HYBRID (Blc. Carolina Orange D'or 'Lenette' AM/AOS x Pot. Love Passion 'Dogashima')

The full-shaped orange flowers of Carolina Orange D'or (Blc. Carolina Golden D'Or x Blc. Malworth D'Or) are magnificent, while the 6-8 blooms per stem make this a spectacular show plant. I have admired this plant for years, and we have used it to make many orange and yellow hybrids. Here we combined this parent with Love Passion (Lc. Trick or Treat x Slc. William Farrell), which produces 7-9 true orange flowers on a strong stem. Expect 6-8 excellent orange flowers held nicely on strong stems, and the plants will be robust, hardy growers. Who doesn't love huge heads of orange flowers?

C. NEW HYBRID (C. Dubiosa 'Scully's' HCC/AOS x C. skinneri 'Angela' FCC/AOS)

Recently, I visited Costa Rica and saw hundreds of the best C. skinneri I have ever seen. This re-kindled my interest in breeding with this fantastic species. Dubiosa (C. harrisoniana x C. trianae) has a well-documented history as a parent, and its shapely, long-lived flowers always remind me that spring is just around the corner. The skinneri cultivar 'Angela' has nearly perfect shape, with very wide, rounded petals and a rich dark color. We imagine that this cross will bloom with 7-8 flowers in pink/lavender colors with beautifully shaped lips. This hybrid should flower well for February and March shows.

Pot. NEW HYBRID (Blc. Hawaiian Discovery 'Fluorescent Orange' HCC/AOS x Pot. Love Passion 'Dogashima')

The shapely flowers of Hawaiian Discovery (Blc. Orange Nuggett x Blc. Bouton D'Or) are an amazing orange color, 'Fluorescent Orange' to be exact! Love Passion (Pot. William Farrell x Lc. Trick or Treat) is an excellent grower, and plants produce 9-11 large, bright orange flowers held well above the foliage. Orange, orange and more orange will be the result here. Sturdy stems will hold up 6-8 yep, you guessed it, orange flowers. These are exhibiting excellent vigor and will make outstanding show plants.

Trick or Treat (L. Icarus x Lc. Blc. NEW HYBRID (Blc. Orange Nuggett 'Kadaoka' HCC/AOS x Blc. Guess What 'SVO' AM/AOS)

Orange Nuggett (Blc. Manu Akaka x Bc. Daffodil) has sired many impressive and well-known hybrids, including Iwan. Appleblossom, Blc. Momilani Rainbow, and Fuchs Orange Nuggett. Its flowers are deep orange and have heavy substance. Guess What (Blc. Waikiki Gold x Lc. Trick or Treat) produces clusters of 8-9 vibrant orange flowers. It is one of my favorite March bloomers and has been playing an important role in our breeding program. We expect heads of 5-7 solid orange flowers with improved shape. Guess What will add segment width, and Orange Nuggett will increase the fullness of the lip. A great orange hybrid!

Lc. Naranja en Flor (Lc. Trick or Treat 'Orange Magic' AM/AOS x Lc. Spring Fires 'Lenette No.3')

The name of this grex, Naranja en Flor, is Spanish for “Orange in Flower.” Over the years, I've been impressed by the breeding qualities of both Spring Fires and Trick or Treat. I am very confident that these will turn out great! Plants will have strong stems holding 10-15 or more starry red to orange flowers above the foliage in March. Mature plants will be 14-16” tall and produce a spectacular display.
